About Hearth & Hedge

Hearth & Hedge is a place where I share what I’m learning as I go.
Most of it revolves around simple things—using herbs, cooking from scratch, preserving food, and paying more attention to the seasons. Over time, that also started to include moon rituals and other slower, more intentional practices.
I don’t really separate those things. To me, they all overlap. Making tea, lighting a candle, canning food, or stepping outside during a full moon all feel like part of the same rhythm.
Who I Am
Hi, I’m Beth—the person behind Hearth & Hedge.
I’m a mom managing a busy, slightly chaotic household, and most of what I share here comes straight out of that real-life experience.
Most days look like reheating the same cup of coffee three times, trying to remember where I set something down, and keeping kids, animals, and dinner all moving in the same direction.
Somewhere in the middle of that, I started building routines that actually work—and that’s what ends up here.
If something doesn’t work in my house, it doesn’t make it onto the site.
Why I Made This Site
I didn’t start this as an expert.
I started it because I was trying to figure things out for myself.
I wanted to rely less on store-bought everything, learn basic skills, and create a home that felt a little more grounded and a little less rushed. I also wanted something that helped me slow down mentally, not just physically.
A lot of what I found online felt either too polished to be realistic or too technical to actually use day to day.
So this became a place where I keep track of what works, what doesn’t, and what I’m still figuring out.
What You’ll Find Here
Most of what I share falls into a few areas, even if they overlap:
Herbal and natural living
Simple, practical ways to use herbs, teas, and basic remedies in everyday life—like the kinds of blends I use during cold season.
Homestead skills
Canning, cooking, food preservation, and learning how to make more from scratch. If you’re brand new, I’ve broken it down step-by-step in guides like my beginner canning posts.
Moon rituals and seasonal living
Beginner-friendly moon rituals, reflection practices, and ways to work with natural cycles without overcomplicating it—whether that’s making moon water or just stepping outside and paying attention.
How I Approach Things
I don’t follow a strict system, and I don’t expect anyone else to either.
Most of the time, I’m just using what I have, adjusting as I go, and trying to keep things simple enough to actually stick with.
You don’t need a perfect setup or a big plan to start. A lot of this comes down to small habits, consistency, and paying attention.
A Quick Note
Anything related to herbs or health is based on general knowledge and personal experience, not medical advice.
If something isn’t improving or seems serious, it’s always worth checking with a qualified professional.
That’s Really It
This isn’t meant to be complicated.
It’s just a place to share what I’m learning and what’s working in my home—something practical, a little slower, and a little more intentional—in case it helps someone else along the way.
